By September 22, 2012

Follow me on:

McDonalds Happy Meals menu board with caloriesMcDonalds is rolling out nationally nutritional menu boards... not sure if I want to really know the calories of a Big Mac, but no choice... we will see them everywhere, the Happy Meals Menu Board here is but one example (click image for larger view).

McDonalds Salads and More menu board with calories

The Salads and More Menu Board does illustrate how they can positioning healthy in a credible manner. The menu boards here are only 2 of many you will see but the really intriguing part is their mobile app. How about Mobile App Menu Boards?

Mobile App Theory

Why am I intrigued? Well for starters most apps have location based services so you can search for the nearest... well... McDonalds! However many mobile apps also use WiFi as well... look at the Stop and Shop ScanIt App that can tell where you are in their store to offer you targeted promotions.

So I think McDonalds could use their app to suggest menu offerings that fit your eating habits and health considerations. How? Well there are lots of ways such as tie it into a mobile payment platform The Dunkin' App uses a QR code that is scanned completing your payment, all without cash card.like the Dunkin Donuts App. Or create a a loyalty program that communicates with your smartphone, like the loyalty cards at supermarkets.

They really could get incentivize people to eat better with this technology... more to follow :)
