Mobile Platforms Drive Hot Pizza Sales for Dominos
Domino's Pizza is rewarding their digital customers. Why? For the first time in its history, digital sales surpassed the $1 billion mark in the U.S. ... the period from April 2011 to 2012.
Starting on June 11, customers who order digitally will get 50% off on all pizzas ordered online at menu price.
The half price deal is only available through Domino's digital ordering channels, which include online ordering (available at www.dominos.com), mobile ordering (available at http://mobile.dominos.com) and the iPhone and Android apps - and continues participating stores, through Sunday, June 17. This limited time offer applies to the pizza portion of orders only.
"We love our online customers, and have learned so much from them during the past five years about how we can continue to deliver the best online ordering experience in the industry," said Russell Weiner, Domino's Pizza chief marketing officer.
Dominos Apps Reach 80% of Mobile Users in US
Ordering through Domino's digital platforms has grown immensely since debuting in 2008 - and now makes up over 30 percent of Domino's $3.4 billion sales in the U.S.
Approximately 7% of their revenue comes from mobile... that is a lot of pizza.
Domino's now offers its mobile ordering app, iPhone and Adroid, to more than 80 percent of smartphones in the U.S. Both apps are in the top 15 in lifestyle rankings - with the Android app ranking at No. 5 on Google Play, and the iPhone app ranking at No. 15 on the iTunes Store.
Why Does Dominos Love Digital?
Dominos says they have learned so much from their digital customers and it is no wonder. What can they learn?
Well, besides the obvious things like products and time of day, they can learn what pages you look at, how long you stay on a page. Mobile apps for the most part rely on location based services so we can envision how they may learn how location drives sales. The list can go on so I think you see how digital is changing how consumers shop for food and given 1/3 of sales from digital channels, there is no question digital will drive significant sales for many food brands in the future.
